The Raspberry Pi foundation has introduced the Pi Zero measuring just 65 x 30 x 5 mm for an impressive $5. According to Eben they have managed to squeeze the costs down to the price of just one cup of Latte! Hmm… good idea, I think that should be the new benchmark for computer pricing. Anyway it’s a Raspberry Pi and rather than prattle on I will just list the features:

• A Broadcom BCM2835 application processor
o 1GHz ARM11 core (40% faster than Raspberry Pi 1)
• 512MB of LPDDR2 SDRAM
• A micro-SD card slot
• A mini-HDMI socket for 1080p60 video output
• Micro-USB sockets for data and power
• An unpopulated 40-pin GPIO header
o Identical pinout to Model A+/B+/2B
• An unpopulated composite video header

The only other thing you are likely to need is a mini HDMI adapter to connect it to a standard connector. The RPi Zero is available for pre-order soon at Elektor. Regrettably the product’s indeterminate pricing and availability do not permit sale at this time.
