Rohde & Schwarz has launched the first handheld oscilloscope with the functionality, look and feel of a high-end lab oscilloscope. The R&S Scope Rider combines five instruments in a compact package, and the rugged design makes the instrument perfect for mobile installation jobs and maintenance activities. The instrument features isolated inputs and communication interfaces, complies with CAT IV standards, and is suitable for measuring voltages up to 600 V.

With an acquisition rate of 50,000 waveforms per second, a 10-bit A/D converter developed in-house by R&S, and a maximum analog input channel bandwidth of 500 MHz, this portable oscilloscope clearly surpasses currently available comparable instruments. The Scope Rider integrates five functions for optimal versatility. The basic instrument is a high-performance oscilloscope with a precise digital trigger system, 33 automatic measuring functions, envelope testing and XY plotting. The Scope Rider can also act as a logic analyzer with eight digital channels, as a protocol analyzer with trigger and decode functions, as a data logger, and as a digital multimeter. That makes this portable oscilloscope ideal for a broad spectrum of tasks.

The Scope Rider is the first portable oscilloscope equipped with a large-format capacitive touchscreen, making operation just as intuitive as a tablet. The instrument also has large buttons for operation with gloved hands and a practical multifunction knob for simple parameter settings. Thanks to an IP51 rated enclosure, the instrument is ideal for use in harsh environments. The Scope Rider additionally has an integrated WLAN interface, which can be configured as a hotspot for wireless operation of the instrument from a smartphone, tablet or laptop.
