Smartphones have become the cornerstones of our lives. We use them for all sorts of things, including the occasional phone call.

Games are also a popular pastime with smartphones. But with compute-intensive apps you have to watch out for overheating of the processor, which drastically reduces the performance. The Japanese company Sanwa has devised a solution for this: an external cooler in the form of a backpack that attaches to the back of the smartphone, with a miniature fan spinning at 4,000 rpm to keep the smartphone cool. Actually it’s the same idea as laptop coolers, which have been around for years, but in a smaller version. The cooler housing also contains a lithium ion battery with a capacity of 1,000 mAh, which powers the fan and can also be used to recharge the smartphone battery.

The cooler can be ordered from Sanwa’s online shop, with the first product shipments scheduled for this month.
