In the mid 1960's I was a teenager and getting interested in electronics. I had just read about rebuilding old radio receivers (Popular Electronics May 1964) when I saw a mammoth Silvertone console radio on the curb, just waiting to be collected by the “sanitation engineers”. Unfortunately I couldn’t ask the school-bus driver to stop.
