Bluetooth was developed in the 90’s following an initiative by engineers from Ericsson Mobile in Sweden. The objective was apparently to get rid of the cable which connected headsets to portable telephones. The industry association which specified and standardised this protocol, called Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), was officially created in 1998.
