Do electrical engineers and companies have an ethical responsibility to use their skills for more than making a profit? Should ethics play a role in how electronics-focused companies conduct business? To what extent should they concern themselves with topics like sustainable development, green manufacturing, and social responsibility? How do their decisions affect local communities and the environment? Should their associations offer help in geopolitical disputes? How can Ethics in Electronics (EiE) help? These are just a few of the important questions to consider as we develop the electronic systems that will shape the 21st century.

Lenthe Foundation (an Amsterdam-based nonprofit producer of events about social entrepreneurship: www.lenthe.nl) and its media partners Elektor, ELEKTRONIKPRAXIS, and electronica invite electrical engineers, startup entrepreneurs, business owners, C-level leaders, and high-tech executives to think along with us. Participate in EiE 2024.

WEEF's Launching

-

Corona did not make it easy to launch the pioneer edition of WEEF. Setting up a new format in times when nothing is certain, and all regulations change almost hourly was undoubtedly a challenge. But the topic of ethics in the electronics industry was and is so urgent and crucial, that the WEEF team simply did not want to wait another year.

And so, the first World Ethical Electronics Forum took place online and live at productronica on November 18, 2021. It inspired – beyond expectations- 223 global curious decision-makers with open discussions about ethics and the pros and cons of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

With exciting speakers and debaters like Prof. Dr. Stefan Heinemann (Professor of Business Ethics, FOM), Dr. Paula Palade (Digital Manager, Jaguar Land Rover), Margot Cooijmans (Director, Philips Foundation), and many others, we started the pioneer edition and a great grassroots movement. Thank you, participants and viewers, for your engagement!
