As I write these lines, we are experiencing the long-feared second wave of the COVID-19 virus. We have to face the fact that there can be no such thing as normality until a vaccine or an effective drug is available. Until then, keeping distance is the best antidote, and unfortunately this also applies to trade fairs like electronica. If you are like me, you will miss the experience of strolling through the halls in Munich and discovering new innovations by chance. And you will especially miss the discussions that enable you to expand your knowledge about interesting topics. Unfortunately, this year, it is not possible to actually get a whiff of trade fair air. But you can discover new products and services (by chance or planned). Messe München is organizing electronica virtually from November 9 to 12 at www.electronica.de. Some of the companies exhibiting there will also be reporting on new products and services in our new issue of Elektor Industry. All this is supplemented by background articles. For example, my colleague Stuart Cording shows the pitfalls of company mergers in the semiconductor industry (“The Nvidia-Arm Deal: Behind the Scenes of Big Semiconductor Industry Mergers,” p. 6).
