Elektor Edition November / December

Without a smart approach to production and access to essential components, electronics innovation comes to a standstill. For this reason, we focus an entire edition of Elektor Mag on Production and Components each year. Whether you are pro engineer, an executive leading a global product team, or a weekend maker, you need to remain educated about the various tools of production and components available to deliver new projects and products on time and within budget. In the November/December 2022 edition of Elektor, we focus on these topics and much more – so much more, that we’ve added 24 pages to the issue! The magazine’s cover features Elektor’s new high-end amplifier, the Fortissimo-100. In an in-depth article, designer Ton Giesberts dives deep into the amp’s design, construction, and testing. Other notable projects and articles in the edition include an FM/DAB+ Receiver, RP2040-based air quality measurement, and low-latency Bluetooth door control.

In November, Elektor will also be exhibiting at electronica in Munich, Germany (November 15-18, Hall B4.440), where you also can attend the World Ethical Electronics Forum 2022 and eFFWD 2022. If you are in Munich, you can visit our booth to meet with our engineers and editors to discuss the latest trends, DIY projects, and exciting new high-tech solutions. We look forward to seeing you!

Webinar - How to Identify and Test Components

webinar production and components

If you scrounge electronic components from old equipment, chances are that you have come across parts that couldn’t be identified right away as a transistor or a capacitor or something else. It may be due to a strange shape, an unexpected color coding or the text printed on the part as is often the case with integrated circuits. SMT components may not have any print on them at all. Once a component is identified, you probably want to reuse it. But since it was stripped from an old and possibly defective circuit board, you must verify that it still works before soldering it into your circuit.

In this webinar, David Ashton will not only share tips and tricks for identifying unknown electronic components, but he will also present several techniques that can be used to test parts of uncertain provenance without requiring fancy or expensive test equipment. All attendees will have a shot to win a SunFounder Kit. Don’t miss the webinar on December 8 at 16:00 (Berlin time).

David Ashton has written several articles for Elektor, including “The Polyfuse: Set-and-Forget Protection for Circuits," "Power Semiconductor Tester," and "Component Identification." You can find all of his articles at www.elektormagazine.com/ashton.

Clemens Valens is Elektor's Creative Technologist. He holds a BSc in Electronics and an MSc in Electronics and Information Technology. Valens started working for Elektor in 2008 as editor-in-chief of Elektor France. He currently produces engineering tutorials and product reviews at Elektor TV. Clemens is also responsible for the Elektor Labs community website where electronics enthusiasts can publish their work and interact with peers from all over the world.
