Vintage ammeter with precision full-wave rectifier
A first step in domestic electric power consumption monitoring and control.
Considering that my domestic electric energy consumption bills seem to be increasing, I decided to get an independent means to evaluate it by myself. Just for fun, I wanted my first step in this endeavour to have a vintage flavor by using an old fashioned needle ammeter fed by a current transformer. This led me to rediscover an old circuit, the precision full-wave rectifier, and to try to give a clear and easy explanation of its operation.
