Any horologist who keeps a digital clock in the same room as conven- tional clocks cannot but feel sad to see it sitting there, mute and reproachful amongst its more vociferous brothers, its only sound the feeble humming of the mains transformer. In this article we look at various ways of providing the digital clock with a voice, so that it can draw our attention to the fact that it is keeping time far more accurately than any mere mechanical clock.
