The Greek Energy Forum hosted a prestigious closed event focused on the implementation of the European Energy Union vision, which currently corresponds to a high strategic priority for the EU.
The keynote speaker of the event was the Vice President of the European Commission responsible for the Energy Union, Maroš Šefčovič. The event took place on the 17th of May at Hyatt Regency Hotel in Thessaloniki, Greece, attracting representatives of the business, political and diplomatic world of Greece and the wider region.

The Greek Energy Forum took the initiative to invite Maros Sefcovic to Greece, in order to highlight in the best possible way the achieved progress around the implementation of the Energy Union via new infrastructure projects and international initiatives within and beyond EU borders. The strategic choice of the EU to promote the Energy Union, which entails the physical interconnection and regulatory coupling of individual national energy markets as well as the development of new “energy corridors” like TAP, is believed to definitely upgrade the role of Greece in the region and enable unique growth opportunities for its national economy.

On the occasion of this event, the Greek Energy Forum conducted an exclusive interview with VP Šefčovič, discussing a wide range of key topics for South-East Europe, including the development of natural gas and electricity markets, energy transition, waste management and recycling, energy sustainability for islands, as well as the use of alternative fuels in the shipping sector the Mediterranean. The interview will be published next week on European Energy Review.
