I just saw this interesting speech by Obama on Earth Day. Obama has an optimistic vision for the future. "That progress continues today, as individuals and entrepeneurs across the country help lay the foundation for a green energy economy. One solar panel, smart meter and energy efficient home at a time. [..] we know the economy of the 21st century will be built on infrastructure powered by clean energy."
Obama points out that it takes more than pro-active governments to achieve his envisioned future. Visit the Earth Day website to see what you can do to contribute. I can recommend visiting TechTheFuture every day for tips :p
