First follow-up: TDR measurement in the home lab
I mounted a 74F00 on one of my perfboards—which features a ground plane on the top side—and measured the signal directly at the oscilloscope input. This setup is similar to the one described in the article "TDR Attachment for Oscilloscopes." Figure 1 shows a rise time of 1.9 ns, representing a reduction of more than half compared to my function generator.
The measurement using the 2 m, 50-ohm BNC cable is shown in Figure 2. A faint reflection is visible on the right-hand side. Potential sources of interference include the oscilloscope input's relatively high capacitance (14 pF) or an imperfect source impedance at the 74F00 driver.
Figure 3 shows the 3.1 m, 75-ohm cable. That looks better, doesn't it?
