The circuit described here employs a forward-biased diode as temperature sensor. The forward voltage drop of a diode falls by approximately 2 mV for an increase in temperature of 1° C. Since this negative temperature coefficient remains the same regard-less of actual ambient temperature, the scale of the thermometer wi II be linear.
