The strong point of the recently puhlished 'surround-sound subwoofer' is that its frequency response is straight down to 20 Hz. Such excellence has another side as well, however. In the article mentioned, it was achieved hy additional amplification of the low tones, rising to as much as 10 dB at 20 Hz. This means that there is still appreciable amplification below 20 Hz: it is only below 10 Hz that attenuation begins to occur.
