CCS in Europe - the way forward

In this paper, which was written with the support of the European Climate Foundation, the author argues that the EU should ajust its CCS policy to "new facts" that are presenting themselves.

Hinc identifies four "new facts".

Fact One: The political momentum is gone

Fact Two: most of the EU CCS demonstration plants will not mee the 2015 deadline

Fact Three: funding for CCS is not sufficient,

Fact Four: a new game changer occurred - shale gas

In the light of these new circumstances, the EU essentially has three options of going forward: business as usual, reshaping CCS policy, or changing its energy and climate policy priorities. However, Hinc does not explicitly recommend which option should be chosen.
