Elektor Lab Talk #46 will host Miha Gjura, Field Application Engineer at Red Pitaya, on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 16:00 CEST for a discussion about test and measurement, reconfigurable instruments, and what is new around the platform. Elektor recently released a hands-on Red Pitaya Gen 2 bundle, which takes an in-depth look at the versatile measuring instrument.

From Bench Instrument to Reconfigurable Platform

Red Pitaya is interesting because it sits in that awkward but useful space between a conventional instrument and a development platform. The hardware can be used as an oscilloscope, signal generator, spectrum analyzer, or data acquisition system, but the FPGA and processor inside also make it possible to build and modify measurement workflows. The platform documentation describes the STEMlab 125-14 PRO Gen 2 as a compact measurement and control platform with a Zynq 7010 SoC, high-speed ADCs and DACs, and support for signal generation, acquisition, and real-time processing.

Experimenting with Red Pitaya STEMlab Gen 2

We'll also take a look at Elektor’s Experimenting with Red Pitaya STEMlab Gen 2. The book looks at the platform and covers practical experiments, Python, FPGA development, and real measurement work, showing how engineers can use a flexible instrument when they want to learn, prototype, test, or build something of their own.

We'll also ask Miha about his impressions of embedded world 2026, what people were asking about, where Red Pitaya sees momentum, and how compact, software-defined test equipment fits into the current engineering bench.
