My last Gadget News was about a tag to help find lost items. This time we have another tag but it solves a problem that has rarely been tackled before. It's well known that things (especially expensive things) can sometimes ‘disappear’. This tag is a high tech alarm to protect your high-value possessions. It has been designed by students at the Swedish Lund University. They have launched a Kickstarter campaign and also founded a Startup to produce the tag. Company boss Andrew Lentz got the idea while on holiday in Mexico, he was planning to take a dip in the ocean but felt nervous about leaving his bag unattended on the beach.

Its basic operational principle is quite simple: it detects when the protected valuable starts to move but its owner doesn’t, something is amiss and an alarm sounds. The owner can use a smartphone, smartwatch or other intelligent wearable to determine the location and movement of the protected item. The tag attached to the valuable is the size of a USB stick and communicates via Bluetooth. The tag can be configured to send regular ‘don’t forget me’ messages. Other features of the system can be seen on the Kickstarter page.
