It is hardly a question that RF requires a different way of thinking than “normal” electronics. Capacitances and, above all, inductances of the wiring play an extremely important role here. To minimize these influences in test setups and prototypes, a quasi-continuous ground plane with correspondingly low inductance would already be a step forward. In addition, such a ground plane also reduces the influence of the environment. A circuit like this then behaves on the workbench not so differently from how it would in a (metal) enclosure. And when using a plastic enclosure, the classic hand effect (it only works when you hold the enclosure in your hand) is much less pronounced....
