UK distributor Rapid Electronics have announced they are now stocking the capable Udoo single-board embedded PC which features full compatibility with the Arduino development environment and can run both Linux and Android.

To change operating systems it’s a case of switching micro SD cards and rebooting. Processing power is delivered by a quad-core ARM i.MX6 Freescale CPU running at 1 GHz with 1 GB of DDR3 RAM. A dedicated Atmel SAM3X8E provides Arduino compatibility.

Back in 2013 Udoo was launched on Kickstarter and promptly drummed up over twenty times its funding target. The goals of the project were to develop a product for the growing applications market by offering a low cost embedded platform, suitable for the interactive arts, that has powerful tools including Processing, OpenCV, PureData and OpenFramework.

This board comes with all the bells and whistles you are likely to need including 76 GPIO ports, Arduino compatible R3 1.0 pinout, external SD card support, dedicated GPUs for 2D and 3D graphics and composition, digital audio I/O, HDMI and LVDS + Touch, 2 x MicroUSB, 2 x USB 2.0 Type A and 1x USB 2.0, analog audio and mic jacks, CSI camera connection, RJ45 Ethernet, WiFi module and a welcome SATA connector with power header for hooking up mass storage.

Udoo retails at £138 plus VAT and is available now.
