Top Semiconductor Companies Post 20%+ Gains
Seven of the world’s top 15 semiconductor companies — including Samsung, Micron, and STMicroelectronics — had greater than 20% growth for the 1H18 period, according to a new report by IC Insights. “The Big 3 memory suppliers—Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron, each registered greater than 35% year-over-year growth in 1H18.” Learn More
New Supercomputer CPU in the Works
Fujitsu recently published specifications for the A64FX, the world's first CPU to adopt he Scalable Vector Extension (SVE), to be featured in the successor to the K computer, which became the first computer to surpass 10 petaflops in 2011. Fujitsu is collaborating with the Riken Advanced Institute for Computational Science in Kobe, Japan, on the project. Together they aim to achieve application execution performance 100x better than the K computer. Key features and specs include: Armv8.2-A SVE, 48 computing cores (plus 4 assistant cores), 32 GiB (HBM2), 7 nm FinFET, 8.7 billion transistors, 1024 GBps peak memory bandwidth, and double precision (64 bit) floating-point operations over 2.7 TOPS. CTIA Announces Cybersecurity Certification Program
CTIA, a US-based wireless industry association, has launched the CTIA Cybersecurity Certification Program for cellular-connected Internet of Things (IoT) devices. “America’s wireless industry has long been a leader in cybersecurity best practices and establishing an industry-led cybersecurity certification program for IoT devices is a major step in building a trusted, secure wireless ecosystem for the Internet of Things,” Tom Sawanobori, CTIA SVP and CTO, said in a release.
