Embedded World 2025: Day 1

Update: March 11 at 15:10 — Brian Tristam Williams
The Raspberry Pi booth from Hall 3A is drawing significant attention, with queues and a busy atmosphere. Compared to last year, the booth has undergone a redesign, moving away from its red-pink color scheme to a grey logo. Raspberry Pi is exhibiting alongside partners such as EDA Technology, Sharp NEC, and Sixfab.
Sixfab, an industrial partner, is presenting APLON X5, a rugged box with four antenna inputs — two for LTE diversity, along with WiFi and GPS/GNSS. It runs on a Compute Module 5 with a HaLow accelerator, enabling real-time detection. Demonstrations show its capability to recognize objects like doughnuts and detect car fires even from low-quality security camera footage.

Sharp NEC Display Solutions Europe is presenting display technology for applications like airport displays and large-scale deployments. These systems use Raspberry Pi to drive images to run 24/7 with high reliability and compelling returns across various screen types.
Additionally, Raspberry Pi has a display case featuring its latest products, including the Raspberry Pi AI Hat+, Raspberry Pi Audio, and Raspberry Pi cases.

At Hall 4A, Booth 148, STMicroelectronics is presenting its motor control software, which includes a free SDK. The software manages motor parameters, such as adjusting torque when moving uphill or when a drill encounters resistance. It also monitors performance and detects when the motor is stuck. Vincent LEYNAERT from ST mentioned that he has been an Elektor reader since childhood and plans to visit the Elektor booth (Hall 5, Booth 181). He also expressed interest in our ongoing joint STM32 Edge AI Contest, powered by STMicroelectronics.

Edge Impulse is displaying their technology at booth 4A, following Qualcomm's recent announcement of acquiring the company.
One demo running on a Qualcomm chip features a large language model (LLM) capable of identifying the color, type, and even reading the plates of cars. While large models can't be fully trusted, Edge Impulse provides a way to manually verify results and train the model further. Edge Impulse also shared that the integration of this feature into their suite of tools and models is planned for later this year.

Hall 3 is overflowing with companies showcasing the latest wireless innovations, including 5G technology. While not the most modern hall, it is definitely worth a visit. Smaller booths in this hall also highlight various developments in wireless technology. Among the exhibitors, RAKwireless (Hall 3 / Booth Number 3-500) is presenting new LoRa modules featuring an ST microcontroller for low-power operation and an ESP controller for connectivity. The ESP32 remains in sleep mode most of the time, only activating when a transmission is scheduled.
Update: March 11 at 12:00 — Jens Nickel
Analog Devices is presenting an interesting plugin for IDE — CodeFusion Studio: System Planner. This tool helps developers manage project creation and resource partitioning for microcontrollers. It allows the configuration of two or more cores, including clocks, pin assignments, and peripherals. If two software teams assign the same pin for different controls, the system flags it. Notably, this tool is nominated for the Embedded Award in the software category. More details are available at Hall 4A, Booth 360.
