2014 is here, and we’re proud and excited to be bringing you the first new year edition of Elektor Magazine. As always, our January & February issue is a double sized “jumbo” magazine filled with twice the amount of great content as usual!

To coincide with the free DSP (Digital Signal Processing) webinar we’re presenting on 23 January next, we’ve also got a great DSP project for you – the ADAU1701 Universal Audio DSP Board! We’ll help you to avoid the complicated math and SMD soldering that can prove difficult for beginners and guide you right into the practical side of DSP with “sound effects the drag-and-drop way”. This board has only through-hole components, except for the DSP chip itself, which Elektor PCB Service kindly reflow-solder in place for you.

We’ll be finishing up our UltiProp Clock project from last year, guiding you through the intricate assembly of the propeller clock, and, once you’ve completed that, we’ve got another timepiece for you to work on – the Pretty Accurate Digital Wall Clock! Despite not having radio control, this nifty wall-mounted clock will only ever have a possible error of up to 64 seconds per year! Max!

Tube fans will find their heaters switched on by the Compact Tube Amp with a pair of PCL86’s driving the loudspeaker through a power transformer.

For those of you whom are model train enthusiasts, we’ve got a nice project which will allow for Dual Radio Control using low-power radio devices. No longer will you be stuck with two infra-red remote controllers using the same channel!

The more outdoorsy and eco-minded of you might enjoy our Bird Drinking Water Heater, which will help keep all your feathered friends coming back to your garden over the winter months despite the cold temperatures, making you the envy of all your neighbors.

Of course, we also have the staple Elektor Magazine segments that you’ve come to expect, such as our exclusive-to-Elektor Hexadoku puzzle and another Retronics article from magazine editor-in-chief Jan Buiting, this month on the 1984 Elektor AC Power Supply.

The January & February 2014 edition is on sale now in the Elektor web store and in selected bookshops and kiosks (subject to transport delays).

Elektor GREEN and GOLD members can download their digital copy from the Elektor.Magazine website.
