Elektor Lab Talk #48 Looks at RF in the Real World

Wireless design is often presented as a tidy choice between protocol names: Wi-Fi, BLE, LoRa, ESP-NOW, nRF24, CC1101, and so on. In practice, the useful questions are messier. What range do you actually get? What happens to latency? How does antenna placement change the result? What are you measuring, and are you measuring it in a way that helps you make a design decision rather than just admire a datasheet?

That is where Saad’s MultiRF Dev Board comes in. The board brings several wireless options together on one platform, alongside GPS, microSD logging, an OLED, buttons, and expansion connectors. The point is not just to collect radios like stickers on a laptop. It is to give developers a controlled way to compare different approaches and understand the trade-offs between range, data rate, power consumption, robustness, firmware complexity, and system cost.

IoT Sensor Design

The July/August 2026 edition of Elektor Magazine focuses on IoT and sensors, so the live stream will also look at the broader project context: sensor nodes, field testing, low-power decisions, and the difference between a quick prototype and something you can trust outside the lab. For anyone building connected measurement systems, those details matter more than the headline protocol.

Magazine Highlights, Lab Updates, and Viewer Questions

Elektor Lab Talk #48 will also include a look at selected highlights from the July/August issue, plus room for Elektor Labs updates and viewer questions. The live session is brought to viewers free thanks to eeNews Europe, an Elektor International Media publication covering the global electronics market.

Viewers will have a chance to win the Building Wireless Sensor Networks Elektor book during the live stream. It is a useful fit for a show about LoRaWAN, IoT nodes, sensors, gateways, and hands-on wireless development, giving readers practical background on designing and understanding wireless sensor-network projects.
