The new MSR7810WUP family of switching voltage regulators from MicroPower Direct are pin-compatible replacements for the popular LM78xx series of linear voltage regulators, with the major advantage that their very high efficiency (up to 95%) makes heat sinks unnecessary.

Four different types are available, with fixed output voltages of 3.3, 5, 12, and 15 V DC (MSR7810-033WUP, -05WUP, -12WUP and -15WUP). The maximum rated input voltage is 36 V, and the maximum rated output current is 1 A. A special feature of the MSR7810-05WUP, -12WUP and -15WUP devices is that they can supply a negative output voltage from the positive input voltage pin by simply swapping the two leads. In that configuration the voltage regulators can supply a voltage of -5, -12 or -15 V with a maximum output current of 500, 300 or 300 mA, respectively.

The MSR7810WUP voltage regulators are supplied as fully assembled circuit boards without housing, with dimensions of 17.5 x 11.5 x 7.5 mm (excluding leads). The modules are suitable for operating temperatures from -40 to +85°C. All types EN 60950 approved and can withstand a continuous output short-circuit. The MTBF of the voltage regulators is more than 2.0 Mhr according to MIL HDBK 217F.
