Texas Instruments has launched a new audio opamp claimed to be the new standard for high-end audio. The OPA 1622 is the newest member of the popular Burr Brown audio family, which TI took over in 2000. It is the successor to the well-known and renowned OPA 1612.

The new OPA 1622 can deliver a respectable 150 mW of output power and features an extremely low distortion level of -135 dB at 10 mW into a 32 ohm load (-120 dB at 100 mW). This makes it an outstanding choice for use in professional and high-end audio equipment. Thanks to its compact dimensions (3 x 3 mm DFN package) and low power consumption, the device is also very suitable for use in portable devices such as smartphones, tablets, headphone amplifiers and stand-alone DACs.
