From Sensor Modules to Working Systems

The webinar will follow the engineering path from a physical sensor to usable data, rather than presenting a catalogue of disconnected parts. Aldea will discuss Click and Qwiic sensor modules, the developing BeagleBadge and BeagleConnect Zepto ecosystem, and the choices involved in extending a bench prototype into a connected or distributed sensor system.

Modular interfaces can make it easier to try different sensors, but the connector is only the beginning. The session will examine how device selection, bus configuration, firmware, power, communications, and host-side software affect the finished system. The speakers will also cover BeagleConnect sensor chaining as a way to organize multiple sensing points without treating every node as an isolated project.

Practical IoT Sensor Systems in Software

On the software side, the webinar will cover Zephyr-based development for embedded nodes and integration with Linux. The discussion will include Linux Industrial I/O (IIO), which provides a common framework for sensor drivers and user-space access, and how that framework can connect low-level measurements to larger applications.

We will also look at the boundary between rapid prototyping and a system that can be maintained, extended, and deployed. That includes practical limitations, configuration choices, reusable software, and the point at which a single sensor board becomes part of a networked architecture.
