Post Project 59: Elektorized Lego LED

Lego has never been more popular, it was even elected 2015’s World’s Most Powerful Brand. Though not a brand, LEDs (light emitting diodes) enjoy similar popularity. It made us wonder what happens when you cross Lego with LEDs? The World’s Most Popular Lego brick? (is everything that starts with “LE” highly successful?) We decided to give it a try.

Some time ago the author was asked about options for making a Drum Light for the Carnival festivities. The contraption should light up brightly every time a drum is slammed, providing a nice light effect during late evening and night performances of the Carnival reveler banging the drum, whether solo or in a samba band.

Have you ever thought of amplifying LED light? Here we do it, with just about any low-current LED driving signal at the input and a 100-watt incandescent bulb as very bright “output device”.

Anyone who has managed to make an LED turn on and off using BASCOM can also control the segments of a 7-segment display. That is the basis of this simple low-cost digital clock.
