This new drone-mounted camera gizmo launched on Kickstarter will help fuel your paranoia. The HEXO+ project marries a GoPro Hero3 HD camera to a hexapod autonomous model drone and pairs it with your smartphone. So far so good, now comes the interesting bit; set up the drone to track the phone at a programmable distance and just put the phone in your pocket. Wherever you go the drone now tracks and films your activities in HD.

With a top speed of 45 MPH it should be capable of following you on mountain bike trails and loads of other extreme sports activities. There is no need to worry if you take a wrong turn and head off into a bottomless crevasse; the drone will sense you are out of range and autonomously perform a safe landing, thereby preserving footage of your final moments on the planet.

This novel idea has lots of potential for both amateur and professional video makers alike; up till now the expense of aerial photography has often been the prohibiting factor for low-cost productions. The HEXO+ will eventually be available in several different formats. At $299 the DIY kit is the cheapest option but you will need a 3D printer and camera. The most expensive $999 package includes a HEXO+ drone together with a GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition 4K camera and all necessary bits.

With 21 days to run the HEXO+ campaign has already raised 16 times its $50,000 target.
