Imagine an EMC shielding solution that is so flexible it can be perfectly tailored to each specific process while also exhibiting incredible durability. Innovative wire mesh made from ultra-thin flat wires combined with round wires makes this possible.

Advanced EMC shielding without boundaries

Electromagnetic shielding of components poses a challenge in many modern industries. As electronic systems become increasingly powerful, the intensity and number of sources of electromagnetic interference rise. Many components, such as those used in electric vehicle production, are sensitive to electromagnetic disturbances. Components like infotainment systems or power electronics must be shielded from external electromagnetic fields to ensure the proper functioning of the vehicle. Inadequate shielding can compromise efficiency and safety. Therefore, shielding is of paramount importance. Conventional EMC shields are made of conductive materials such as metal and operate through reflection, absorption, conduction, and spatial isolation to reduce or prevent electromagnetic interference. They reflect electromagnetic waves, absorb energy, conduct electrical currents, and shield sensitive electronic components in enclosures. However, they are relatively rigid and significantly increase the weight of the respective component.

Enhancing Wire Mesh Performance

In collaboration with Kern-Liebers, Haver & Boecker has developed innovative wire mesh specifically for EMC applications. These meshes combine ultra-thin flat wires (thickness below 100 μm) with round wires. Compared to pure round wire meshes, they offer higher surface density, enabling more effective shielding with comparable mesh sizes. Both round wire and flat wire meshes are perfectly suitable for shielding against electrical and magnetic alternating fields.

These meshes achieve a surface coverage of 86%, as opposed to 60% for pure round wire meshes. Measurements with magnetic antennas demonstrate excellent EMC-compliant shielding attenuation of up to 80 dB in the MHz range. The metal meshes are characterized by their high malleability, which increases their adaptability to various installation situations. They are not only lightweight and sturdy but also offer the advantage of permeability to light, air, and steam. Haver & Boecker customizes its products to meet the specific requirements of customers, including wire diameters, mesh sizes, and materials.

Flexible, Moldable, and Powerful

The manufacturing processes enable the highest precision and quality. The processed meshes can be shaped into nearly any geometric form through punching, embossing, or deep drawing. Additionally, the mesh elements can be equipped with plastic or metal edgings, further increasing their versatility. Haver & Boecker collaborates closely with customers to develop perfectly fitting parts tailored to individual functional and production requirements. This collaborative approach allows for finding specific solutions for a wide range of applications and anticipating the ongoing development of new applications.
