At Elektor, everyone has their own personal projects going on, either to turn into articles or just for fun! Learn more about what’s currently happening in our labs, and watch this new episode of Elektor Lab Talk featuring Elektor editors and engineers Brian Tristam Williams, Jens Nickel and Saad Imtiaz.

Projects in Progress

Jens gives a few updates about his portable wireless sound system, discussing the transition from FM analog transmission to low-latency digital audio using Nordic 2.4 GHz radio modules and ESP32-S3 boards, supported by custom-designed PCBs with dual I²S interfaces. He discusses module selection and hardware choices that led to an ultra-compact modular solution ideal for outdoor events.

Saad shares two interesting Home Assistant projects: a 48V UPS battery monitor using MCP3008 ADCs, thermistors, and Pololu current sensors, and a custom-built OBD2 vehicle dashboard based on an ESP32-S3 and ELM327 Bluetooth module, with custom 3D-printed case. On a different note, he also gives a technical overview of working with radar sensors like the LD2420 for human detection, with tips for those interested in home automation.

To conclude this Lab Talk, Brian showcases his MIDI synthesizer project based on a headless Raspberry Pi 5 setup with a live demo! The episode also highlights a few projects from the Elektor Labs platform, including a lithium battery monitor, an MP3 player, and more.
