In the last System Check, we asked community members to share some engineering predictions: Which technologies will be most common by 2035? Which technologies would you want in your life? Here are the results.
When asked which technology they would most like to have in their own homes, priorities shifted noticeably. Better batteries emerged as the clear favorite, attracting just over half of all responses, followed by robot helpers. In contrast, interest in AI hardware design assistants was relatively modest, and autonomous vehicles attracted very little enthusiasm as an in-home technology. The results suggest that while engineers expect AI and autonomy to shape the future, they place the greatest personal value on practical technologies that improve everyday life through longer-lasting power and useful household assistance.
