I never ended up with an empty phone while riding my bicycle. But I can imagine two scenarios where charging your phone while riding your bike might come in handy: during a bicycle holiday or for people who don't have direct acces to electricity. Mounting smartphones to bicycles is getting more popular nowadays since most phones come equipped with GPS and apps such as Google Maps.

Nokia unveiled its first bicycle charger targeting those two groups of consumers. The charger kit consists of a charger, dynamo and a holder to secure the phone to the bike. The kit will be available by the end of 2010 priced at about €15,-.

"Bicycles are the most widespread means of transport in many markets around the world, so this is just one more benefit to be gained from an activity people are already doing. This is a great solution to a real challenge, whether people will use it due to limited access to electricity, or to be more environmentally responsible," says Alex Lambeek, vice president at Nokia.
