Dasani, a Coca-Cola daughter, came up with a new product: The PlantBottle. The PlantBottle is made from up to 30% plant-based, renewable material that replaces conventional fossil based PET plastic. The bottle is 100% recyclable and fits well into Coca-Cola's sustainability strategy. In 2007 for instance Coca-Cola invested more than $60 million in the world’s largest plastic-bottle-to-bottle recycling plant which will be fully operational next year. Coca-Cola's goal and vision is to eventually replace traditional petroleum-based PET bottles with bottles made exclusively from plant-based material. How long this might take is unclear.
