Transistor matcher
In symmetric preamplifiers and output amplifiers, it is highly advisable, if not imperative, to use truly complementary transistors. This means that the base-emitter voltage and the current amplification of the p-n-p and n-p-n transistors must be equal or very nearly so. The absolute values of these parameters are not that important.
