MCU manufacturer Energy Micro has launched a new development kit for its low-power EFM32 Gecko microcontroller family. The kit includes full Segger J-Trace and J-Link support, reducing the need for additional debugging tools. The kit uses the ARM Cortex-M3 EFM32G890F128 microcontroller and is based on the main board from the bigger Leopard and Giant Gecko kits.

The board provides a full complement of user interface hardware, including a full-colour 320 x 240 resistive touch TFT display, supporting switches, a joystick and LEDs. Other features include a large, replaceable prototyping area, 16 MB flash memory and 4 MB Pseudo SRAM (PSRAM), Ethernet MAC/PHY, support for MicroSD, audio I/O and I²S DAC, and an on-board USB debug interface. An on-board Advanced Energy Monitoring (AEM) system facilitates easy visualisation of the prototype's power consumption.

The kit is supported by Energy Micro's Simplicity Studio suite, which includes an energy profiler that interfaces directly with the kit's AEM system via USB, allowing all relevant system data to be read out and presented on a host computer as real-time graphs of current consumption along with related object code.
