Need to identify components? If you scrounge electronic components from old equipment, chances are that you have come across parts that couldn’t be identified right away as a transistor or a capacitor or something else. It may be due to a strange shape, an unexpected color coding or the text printed on the part as is often the case with integrated circuits. SMT components may not have any print on it at all.

Once a component is identified, you probably want to reuse it. But since it was stripped from an old and possibly defective circuit board, you must verify that it still works before soldering it into your circuit.

In this webinar, David Ashton shares tips and tricks for identifying unknown electronic components, and presents several techniques that can be used to test parts of uncertain provenance without requiring fancy or expensive test equipment.

This is the recording of the webinar about How to Identify and Test Components, that aired on December 8th, 2022.
