Transmitting electrical energy from one device to another without using wires can be done in several ways. One common method makes use of inductive coupling between the two devices. In this case, the electrical energy is transferred using coils, like a power transformer but without the two coils being physically attached to each other.

As one can imagine, the quality of the coils involved determine the effectiveness of the power transfer.

In this webinar various parameters from coil size and alignment to air gap, and coupling factor are discussed. Also, the influences of coil material and wire types on system efficiency are investigated. And what about shielding and electromagnetic interference (EMI)?
