A new low-cost, community-oriented development kit for the Xilinx’s Zynq-7000 Extensible Processing Platform (EPP) has been announced by Avnet and Digilent. The ZedBoard kit includes everything necessary to create designs based on Linux, Android, Windows, or another OS/RTOS and targets designers and students interested in exploring and prototyping application ideas for the new EPP architecture.

 

ZedBoard is based on a Xilinx Zynq-7000 XC7Z020 EPP device and features:

  • 512 MB DDR3 RAM;
  • 256 MB QSPI flash;
  • 4 GB SD card;
  • on-board USB JTAG programming;
  • 10M/100M/1G Ethernet;
  • USB OTG 2.0/ USB UART;
  • PS and PL I/O expansion (FMC, Pmod, XADC);
  • multiple display output capability (1080p HDMI, 8-bit VGA, 128x32 OLED);
  • I²S audio codec.

 

The kit includes the ZedBoard, power supply, USB cable, and pre-configured SD card holding a bootable Linux reference design. ZedBoard.org will host additional user-generated reference designs and projects, enabling the community of Zynq designers to collaborate and share design ideas. A 7-inch touchscreen module is also available.
