The PRBSynth1 is a small sound synthesizer running on an Arduino Pro Mini. It was designed by RS-ELC and posted at Elektor Labs. It uses pseudo-random binary sequences (PRBS) to create percussive and pitched sounds, and other sound effects. The mini sound synthesizer comes with MIDI, multimode filter, LFO and stereo panning modulator.

The surrounding & supporting electronic circuits are very simple and most of it is even optional. All its parameters are controlled by either eight potentiometers or over MIDI by using CC controls.

The special thing about the PRBSynth1 is that this synthesizer doesn’t have an oscillator to create sounds with, but uses a noise generator instead. So, the sounds it produces are based on noise instead of sines, saw or square waves, or even samples.
